I guess its been awhile, I kinda wonder if anyone looks at this still, I know I hardly do. But things are good here, actually BETTER, a lot.
A coupla weeks ago I got roped into helping the 1st and 3rd grade class make a garden. This is 1st and 3rd grade Basico, so theyre about 14-18 years old. I was a little unsure of how it would turn out, but it turned out to be great! The kids are really enthusiastic and intelligent, they like to learn, and are very respectful. They have a great teacher which helps a ton because they respect and listen to her more than I was expecting. We finished the garden early and the teacher hadnt planned anything for the rest of the day (class is from 12-5pm, we finished around 230) so we went to the campo to play some soccer. I got invited to join in on their P.E. classes on fridays and I got to teach some kids how to throw a frisbee. They enjoyed it, but were confused that it was a sport since we just stood around throwing this plato to each other. I had to explain that the real sport was Ultimate Frisbee and hopefully we`ll get to play that later.
Now, Im teaching these 30 kids english in the afternoons, or i have for the past 2 days. I dont speak much english here and get easily confused so the teacher did have to correct me a couple times on my english jaja! theres a couple students that are really interested in it and picking up on it fast. Its a lil dificult when some of the kids are really into it and the rest are too shy or not interested to participate; sometimes I feel like im teaching a class of 10. Oh well, its fun anyway. This weekend the class invited me to come explore some Mayan ruins that are up in a cave somewhere and in a coupla weeks we`re all going to the local swimming pool. I cant wait!
I guess thats all for now, just wanted to update since theres actually good things happening now. miss you all!!

ReplyDeleteCool! It sounds like you're really enjoying your time and the people and the kids. That's great! I also taught English classes when I was in Honduras, to the Spanish-speaking missionaries. I really enjoyed it. It's great to see another post from you. I love how you wrote haha as jaja. So funny. Stay happy and safe.

ReplyDeleteHey Jared. Gotta encourage you to keep this thing up-dated, we like reading what you've been doing and how the work is coming along. Sherree doesn't like making too many comments but is usually the first to read. So keep up the work.

Hey you! How are things going? The package I sent to you months ago was just returned to me so i must have gotten your address wrong somehow. I hope everything is going good for you. Its been a while since I've heard anything about what you're up to. The girls talk about you all the time so hopefully we will see you soon. I only have 2-3 weeks left until the baby is born so I'm looking forward to that :) Anyway, I'll talk to mom and see about getting the right address. Till then I hope all is well with you! Love you, Dawn
